SE400 Brother

Stitch Patterns

The SE400 Brother has 67 built-in stitches incorporating 10 1-step buttonhole styles, with 98 stitch functions, allowing you to easily adopt certain sewing styles. You can now do quilting, clothes making, jean hemming, bag making, paper craft sewing and work with a variety of materials in the confines of your home. Sewing stitches built-in the machine include straight,  piecing straight, looped, triple, darning, double over edge, basting, zigzag, overcastting, faggoting, feather, blind hem, appliqué, satin scallop, stretch, patchwork, quilting, eyelet, darning, ladder, ricrac, bar tack, shell tuck, asterisk, argyle, kite, pin, smocking, decorative, heirloom and side cutter.

Buttonhole styles of SE400 Brother include horizontal, secured, stretch, bound and keyhole. Stitch length is adjustable up to a maximum of 5 mm. while stitch width, up to 7 mm. for a selected stitch pattern.

Stitch Functions of SE400 Brother

The stitch function of SE400 Brother gives you the freedom to vary the way to use a built-in stitch. It adds a new dimension to an otherwise ordinary stitch. Built-in stitch functions available include mirror, twin, multi-directional, side cutter, and satin stitch regulator.

The mirror stitch function of  SE400 Brother allows you to sew a decorative stitch in the opposite direction of the original setting of the selected sewing stitch. Thus, if the original setting of the selected sewing stitch goes to the right, applying the mirror stitch function to it, would make the stitch go to the left.

Stitch and Stitch Function Selection

With the use of the backlit touch screen LCD monochrome display of the SE400 Brother, you can use the arrow keys to browse through the built-in sewing stitch pages to select with your finger the stitch that you want to use. Upon selection, the display will show you the stitch functions available for the stitch that you have chosen. Again with your finger, you can select the stitch function that you want to use with the stitch that you have chosen.

Side Cutter Stitch

Let’s take time out to discuss the side cutter stitch. A side cutter stitch is done to trim the fabric off at the seam. This type of stitch of SE400 Brotheris normally accomplished using a serger. A serger is an overcastting sewing machine used for the prevention of material fraying at the edge. The finished side cutter stitches of a serger usually have 3 and 4 loop threading.

Now, the work of a serger has been taken over by the SE400 Brother. You can now do a side cutter stitch that gives your garments a sturdy, polished and professional finish using the SE400 Brother instead.

However, there is a catch to doing the side cutter stitch with the SE400 Brother. You need the side cutter presser foot to perform the stitch. This accessory foot does not come with the purchase of the machine. It has to be bought separately. Well, between buying a serger and an accessory foot, I think you will not think twice in preferring to buy the accessory foot. Am I right or am I right?

Embroidery Designs of SE400 Brother

The SE400 Brother has 70 built-in embroidery designs including flowers, roses, flower baskets, animals, plants and birds. Again, with the use of the LCD Display, you can choose with your finger the design that you want by browsing through the embroidery design pages. The machine will give you a step-by-step instructional guide to design completion that includes thread colour selection, even showing the time requirement for each step completion.

These built-in embroidery designs are always available to you at your convenience. There is, however, an available card slot that is located at the side of the SE400 Brother. You can always add to this design collection by buying Brother embroidery cards that fit into this card slot or you can upload designs you find or buy in the internet using the USB port of the machine.

Frame Patterns

The SE400 Brother has 120 built-in frame pattern combinations with 12 stitch patterns applicable to 10 available shapes including square, circle, diamond. An example of a frame pattern combination would be a straight stitch applied to a circle shape.

Embroidery Lettering Fonts

The SE400 Brother has 5 built-in embroidery lettering fonts, i.e., gothic, outline, calligraphy, serif and sans serif, used for monogramming or embroidery stitching. For each font, there are 5 different character types available, uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols and European, and 3 available sizes, i.e., small 3/8” x 3/8”, medium 5/8” x 5/8” and large 1 ¼” x 1 ¼”.Try SE400 Brother today!

SE400 Package with Most Recent Technology Features

The SE400

The SE400 is packed with the most recent sewing technology features ensuring an easy set-up and a solid performance minimizing thread and jamming mishaps. These features include a horizontal top thread delivery, automatic needle threading system, quick-set drop-in bobbin, an automatic bobbin winding system, upper thread and bobbin sensor which alerts you of thread breakage or run-out, 7-point feed-dog system and drop feed-dog lever. The feed-dog lowering and quilting foot or open toe presser foot attachment are required tasks to perform free motion quilting.

Additional SE400 features that make for simple sewing regardless of your sewing experience level include a push button thread cutter, needle up or down button, sewing start or stop button, speed control slider and reverse or reinforcement stitch button.

SE400

The speed control slider has two purposes, i.e., control the maximum sewing speed, pegged at 710 stitches per minute, on sewing start or stop button usage without the foot pedal and stitch width adjustment when sewing with the foot pedal attached. Meanwhile, the reinforcement stitch button is set automatically when used in conjunction with the automatic thread cutter to ensure the stitch strengthening when the threads are cut.

Most of the SE400 functions have pre-settings. However, there are control dials that can be used to override some pre-settings when necessary, i.e. adjustable top thread tension and 15 needle positions. Furthermore, the SE400 has the twin needle sewing function for the creation of parallel stitch lines with the use of 2 needles containing 1 or 2 thread colours.

The SE400 also comes with a removable extension table for free-arm sewing, a built-in carry handle and a work light.

Presser Feet

The SE400 Brother comes with 8 standard snap-on presser feet, i.e., buttonhole foot, overcastting foot, monogramming foot, zipper foot, zigzag foot, blind stitch foot, button fitting foot and embroidery foot. The presser foot height has 3 settings, i.e., down, regular up and extra up, the last for thick fabric slipping under the presser foot. The zigzag foot has a levelling button for manoeuvring over thick seams or fabric edges, often required for jean denim hemming.

Backlit Touch Screen LCD Monochrome Display of SE400

The Backlit Touch Screen LCD Monochrome Display of the SE400 is a 1.5” x 2.8” touch screen operated with your finger or the provided touch pen or stylus. You control your stitch selections and settings through this display.

For each selected stitch, the SE400 informs you through this display of the presser foot requirement, stitch width and length settings, twin needle possibility and press-button functions that can be associated with it.

A storage facility is offered through this display allowing you to save your stitch settings in the SE400 memory for possible usage repetition.

USB Port

The software and USB port that comes with the SE400 allows you to upload machine software updates and additional embroidery patterns. The USB port usage does not require purchase or upload of any additional computer software.

The SE400 memory can read and accept embroidery designs in .pes and .dst file format types.

Software

The software that comes with the SE400 contains all the necessary instructions for the uploading of machine software updates and additional embroidery patterns. There are 3 optional software available that make for additional flexibility in working on existing or new embroidery designs.

PE-Design/PED Basic of SE400

The PE-Design/PED Basic software can enable you to write embroidery design data into blank reader cards that fit the SE400 reader card slot. You can then organize your embroidery patterns on various reader cards and insert the cards into the SE400 reader card slot as you need them.

There are 2 blank reader cards that fit the SE400 reader card slot, i.e. the Brother SA308 Rewritable Card for PeDesign Versions 1-4 and the Brother SA309 Blank Embroidery Memory Card 4MB.

An additional function of this software in conjunction to SE400 use is the editing of .pes and .dst files that are unreadable by the SE400. This happens when the .pes and .dst files contain code attachments for embroidery pattern descriptions. These code attachments, on the other hand, were written into the files because the additional details, if not coded, eat up too much memory space. This is comparable to condensing files using a zip program.

PE Design Lite

The PE Design Lite software can enable you to create your own embroidery design. It is used for image, photo and clip digitization and turns them into embroidery designs. As a bonus, the PE Design Lite software comes with 35 additional fonts for use in the SE400.

PE Design Next

The PE Design Next software is a combination of the PE-Design/PED Basic and PE Design Lite software, with the addition of an upgraded user interface facility and helpful tools for SE400 users with embroidery related businesses.

Wilcom’s True Sizer e1.5

The Wilcom’s True Sizer e1.5 software gives you a thumbnail view of downloaded embroidery designs, makes for design file format conversion and design size increase or decrease. It is quite user-friendly and Windows compatible. The dashboard that it uses is similar to that being used by Microsoft Office programs. However, any work you do in this software will have to be downloaded to a USB stick before it can be uploaded to the SE400 through its USB port.
